Very good analogy about boiling milk. It makes sense when you put it that way.

I couldn't agree with you more, Jim. I've been in sales for the past 20 years here in the Philippines and I guess its as true here as it is there.

By the way, thanks for adding me to your Twitter Network!

Timing is also important to online sales.

The internet is open for business 24 hours a day, but the day and time of day you send out an email (or even a tweet) will massively impact your feedback / sales!

Props to Jim!

An excellent post, which couldn't have been written by one of the new wave of internet marketing gurus, as they haven't got a clue about real-world selling.

Yep - a lot of my readers have businesses which retail online, so there's going to be lots of material here about how to achieve online sales success!

You made a very relevant point about asking the customer. As a customer, I probably think to myself several times a week "if they asked me I would tell them..."
But they don't ask, and I don't go back.
I too would love to hear some strategies for internet sales that don't involve spamming clients with unwanted emails.

Hi,

I consider this article valuable in the sense of opening my eyes to new things : like study the basic body language. I often lost clients and didn't understood why. Many of them left and said : ok, I like it and I'll be back to close the deal. Some returned and some don't. Now I have a starting point to research why that happened.

It may seem like an odd strategy, but I actually answer all my e-mails from fresh to old. When speaking of timing, I have noticed that regardless of how mundane the question is... buyers are testing for responsiveness. If I answer right away, there is a greater chance of a purchase if the buyer is using the response as a measure of a purchase. This is why older e-mails are answered last since the milk has "boiled over" already.
