One of the secrets of great communication, is to pick the correct delivery method, to get the maximum, targeted exposure for your message. We refer to this as “giving oxygen” to your marketing.
Marketing oxygen
Some of you will have noticed that when I made my BIG announcement here yesterday, I closed the comments section for that post. The reason for this, was to take the conversation about the announcement away from this blog and onto different communication platforms, so a totally new group of people would be able to see it.
As a result, instead of people talking about my “new” blog here, in the comments section, they were having that debate on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.
The next time you make an announcement and you want it to reach the largest possible, targeted audience, I suggest you consider doing something similar. Why? Because yesterday’s post created a 30% increase in readers to this blog and almost 400% more unique visitors to my new blog.
What do you think? Have you used a similar approach before? Do you find yourself struggling to get your marketing messages in front of new, prospective clients / customers? Whatever your experiences or questions, take a moment to share them with your fellow readers and myself, with a comment.

Jim
I spent 15 years training to be lawyer and still love the job but, since I got into social media, I realise that it is not Tesco law that we need to worry about but how content is delivered and assimilated.
Ash kindly put me on to your site and I have spent the last hour having a good read. A great series of ideas and it is nice to see someone in the UK doing something that is original and not based on a lot of the US models that I have seen “Get rich QUICKER than Bill Gates”. Tosh. I have started my own Wordpress blog and reading your site has persuaded me that I must go and buy Headway to sort it out. Outside of law I am insanely passionate about personal development and have been a fan of people like Tom Peters, Warren Bennis and Peter Drucker and would love to see me work online with the professional services sector to get them turned on to the soft skills and a focus on their inner voice; there is a lot of disenchantment in the profession and it isn’t connected with the law but rather trying to figure how to work smarter not harder and get close to what they love doing rather than being drawn into the fire fight of winning clients and dealing with the internal politics.
I look forward to reading your further top tips.
Best wishes.

“Oxygen” is a new marketing term for me, but I get the point. It is often so that a blog does not get even near as much traffic as a social site profile does so it is a great idea to push the information as far and wide as possible.

Very clever, Jim. Like Norman, the subtlety of this past me by. But now I’m going “ah-ha”! I will need to percolate on how I might use similar tactics myself, but I get the point.
Thanks for another bit of learning.

A very novel idea and clever.
I also like the term “marketing oxygen”. Much of what gets done to promote your business / service online and offline doesn’t always get the best chance of success because the oxygen valve is not on enough / at all / or there is a twist in the hose. As a newcomer to the blog world I’m still working on the first one and using other forms of social media to give it the required oxygen. I think running blogs that have cross over in appeal is a great idea and then using them to self promote is a masterstroke.
I shall soon have an empire of blogs and subtly get everyone to see the benefits of them all. The Internet shall be mine:-)
