Make it happen!

Most people spend their lives wishing, instead of doing. The problem with that approach is that it doesn’t work!

Dreaming is great, but if we seriously want to see our wishes become a reality, we need to get off our rear ends and take action.

  • Don’t wish it was easier - Make yourself stronger.
  • Don’t wish it was less expensive - Make yourself wealthy.
  • Don’t wish there was less competition - Make your service beyond compare.

The next time you find yourself wishing for something, write it down, in detail, and then start putting a plan together to make it REAL.

This is a really good follow on from your post of the weekend about making your goals motivational. I took the question from that post and played with it. What helped me most was turning it from a conditional question (“what if…”) which made it seem out there in the future and a little intangible, to a present tense description of how my business IS in an ideal scenario. That made it feel much more real, and gave me some great ideas on what different and more I could do to really make it come alive.

    Thanks again!

Making it happen seems to be rare thing these days – so many people talk and few seem to do.

What I’ve learnt (through many unhappy clients, failed projects, unmet deadlines) is to not promise the world – but to just say I will do basic things, and then do them well.

You’re way of looking at things is also very helpful. I know that I found it easier to rather than wish there was less competition, instead make my services ‘beyond compare’

The way I see it Scott, is that competition is only an issue, if we decide to compete.

By creatively adding uniquely valuable assets to our business / services, we can have 100% of our own special niche.

      Thanks for the comment!

I totally agree. I am working towards a lot of goals right now and when I slip I am NOT really happy. I know where I want to be and where I am NOT right now. The goal is to get everything organized and moving forward and put into motion. I think it would help if I write it down multiple times though. So I believe what is happening and put into action.

Good to hear you are moving forward with your goals.

I am also a BIG believer of both thinking and planning on paper.

      Thanks for the comment Jamie

    Well good day Jim C.

I have really started to listen and put things into a strategy!

I really like your idea of paper & pen in hand..

It might take a while but how they say few weeks in a routine & it should turn into a habit..

    Thanks for you Inspirations.

    simplistic yet effective message.
This in turn means not to over complicate a strategy..pen and paper forces discipline. Under promise, over deliver every time. Thanks Jim for your insight.

I think people often have a tendency, to make things more complicated than they really need to be.

      Thanks for the feedback, Cat.

Great point about doing more than dreaming. To this end, I’ve cut down on my tweeting, for instance, to a minimal frequency per day to focus my time on creating than learning.

I find it amazing Ari, when I see people who are very active each day across; Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and more.

Not sure that sends a good message to prospective clients / customers either.

      Thanks for the comment!

There is a fine difference between being active every day, which I am now, versus being active every hour of every day, which I used to be.

Hi Jim. I think the prevelance of activity on twitter/facebook etc of an individual should be dependent on the role they undertake in the business in terms of driving it forward. If social media is a key strategy for business growth and this in turn works into a definite campaign where the business sends out X tweets/posts promoting their products, blogs etc then I think it’s ok for them to be seen to be busy. Included in this should be conversational engagement also so show a bit more personality! However, 100% inane drivel being pushed out is pointless and it will turn off prospects. Just my thoughts :)

Hi Jim. Agree 125% – this works a treat! Did it myself a couple of years ago – the wish was “Get out of corporate employment and do something on my own”. Wrote it on piece of notepaper, which in turn inspired the contemplation of a plan which became a reality! The simple ways of doing things are often the best!
