One of the basics of good marketing is to understand that people are motivated primarily by their wants and not their needs.
A teenager is old enough to know they need to eat their vegetables, but if they don’t want to eat them, they won’t. That’s because a need does not always equate to desire (or even interest).
Quick marketing tip
Here’s a quick tip for anyone who offers a service, which you know people need, but they may not yet realise they want: Focus on the ‘wants’, which your product or service fulfils.
For example, if you provide web design services and they don’t want a new site, focus on how a better site will help them generate more high quality sales leads (something they do want.) Look at it from their perspective. Think about their challenges – the things that really matter to them. Then, focus on how your service will help them achieve something they want.
Otherwise, it’s like offering prospective clients the answer to a question, which they’re not asking.
