Few things in business are as important as our reputation. That’s why I wanted to share a quick tip with you today, which will help you maintain the reputation you deserve.
Reputations and recommendations
Whenever we recommend a person, product or service, we attach our reputation to it.
- If our recommendation goes well, people will regard us as a useful resource.
- However, if the recommendation we offer goes wrong, people will associate us with that negative experience and our reputation will take a hit.
Here’s a recent example of what I mean.
I was prompted to write this, after a chat I had last week with a small business owner. He had just received a nasty letter from someone, who he had recommended a service provider to. The letter’s author was furious and claimed that the person who had been recommended to him, was a disaster. However, it wasn’t the person who provided him with that disastrous service that he was furious with – it was the business owner who provided the recommendation.
Quick tip
Always ask people for feedback regarding the people, products or services you recommended. It’s all too easy to have had some great experiences with a provider, then recommend them to people – only to find that the quality of service has since dropped.
By seeking regular feedback, you help ensure that the providers you recommend are worthy of your good name.
